Featured Speaker
Glenn Dickinson
Attorney to discuss
writer’s copyright in the Digital Age
at next VCWC Meeting.
The club welcomes attorney Glenn Dickinson as this month’s main speaker. Mr. Dickinson is a partner at Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP, practicing in the areas of trademark, copyright, Internet law and competitive business disputes.
He will be speaking on the topic, “The Writer’s Copyright: Protecting Works of Authorship in the Digital Age.” As he explains in the following brief summary, there are ways to preserve the rights of authorship for writers: “The author of original written works enjoys the rights of a copyright owner, which include the right to commercially exploit those works, and to prevent others from doing so. While the copyright springs into existence upon creation, registration with the U.S. Copyright Office confers important additional rights, at a relatively low cost. The Internet allows nearly instantaneous, worldwide publication of written works, raising both opportunities and perils for the copyright owner…”

Opening Speaker: Dr. Jon Scott
His topic: How Writers Can Maintain a Healthy Spine
Our opening speaker this month is Doctor Jon Scott, who will address a topic to which most writers can relate, but seldom think about until they stand up. Does the phrase “Oh my aching back,” seem familiar?
Doctor Scott is a prominent, licensed chiropractor in Thousand Oaks who will speak to club members on the topic, “How Writers Can Maintain a Healthy Spine.”
Doctor Scott’s commitment to promoting optimal health and well being for his patients uses a “whole person” approach, which means he looks for the underlying disturbances or disruptions which may be causing a patient’s symptoms. He is certified in the Clinical Biomechanics of posture and uses this technique, along with spinal x-rays, to achieve optimal results.
The information he will provide at our meeting will, hopefully, address ways in which we can avoid some of the pitfalls of sitting at our desks hour upon hour.
